KUALA LUMPUR (April 26): A total of 30,625 individuals, who are either the attendees of the tabligh assembly at Sri Petaling Mosque and have close contact with the attendees, have been tested for Covid-19 virus so far. 

The Director-General (DG) of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah revealed there were 18 new cases confirmed today, raising the infection number to 2,130 in the Sri Petaling Cluster. 

Sri Petaling cluster of infection is the largest in which it has developed a fifth generation of infection over the past two months. The three-day tabligh assembly was on Feb 27 and March 1. 

In Kuching, the MoH confirmed two new cases in the Samarahan and Serian church cluster, the total infection number went up to 165 .

The Makassar tabligh cluster saw one new case, bringing the total number of cases to 27. Meanwhile, one new case detected to be related to the Muar hospital cluster, totaling 24 cases. 

In Kuala Lumpur, the Kampung Baru flats cluster saw two new positive cases, its total rose to 36 cases. Kampung Baru is in the Titiwangsa health district. 

According to Noor Hisham, of the 38 new cases confirmed today, 16 are in the capital city, where the total number of Covid-19 cases has climbed to 1,170. 

Speaking at the daily media briefing, Noor Hisham commented that the targeted approach adopted by the government is reaping results. 

“We hope that this would curb the spread of the virus among high-risk groups.

“The ministry is expecting to see more positive cases in the near term, as the targeted screening continues,” said the DG.

There were 38 new positive cases detected as of noon today. This is the second time that the daily new infection figure has been below 40 in one week. The country’s tally is at 5,780. 

There were 100 recoveries as of noon today, exceeding the daily new cases figure again. The total number of cured cases in Malaysia climbed to 3,862, compared with 1,820 active cases in the hospitals. 

No death reported today. The country’s Covid-19 death toll is at 98 currently.
