KUALA LUMPUR (May 11): Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Ministry of Health (MoH) is aware of sporadic Covid-19 cases — or cases that are seemingly not related to the existing infection clusters — and have identified 207 of them.

“The MoH uses a targeted approach and we have eight target groups. In the EMCO (Enhanced Movement Control Order) areas, we would definitely test every individual in the designated area. 

“We know that there are several sporadic cases and have identified a total of 207 cases,” he said, however later adding that the number of sporadic cases have been on the decline.

He mentioned the sporadic cases when addressing a question on whether everyone should get tested, particularly those returning to work.

Noor Hisham responded although a person can return to work after the first test, the individual will be exposed to the community and would therefore risk getting infected.

“The question is how often would we need to test them? Because they would be exposed to the community every single day,” he said.

He reiterated that the targeted approach adopted by the ministry has proven fruitful so far and that the MoH will continue to use this approach in its case tracing and tracking.
