KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced eleven new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, of which five were imported cases while six were local transmissions.
Meanwhile, active cases fell further to 166 from 174 reported by the ministry yesterday, leaving only one patient in the intensive care unit.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said no new Covid-19 deaths were reported today, the country’s death toll has been at 125 for ten consecutive days.
He said 19 Covid-19 patients have recovered and were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 8,803 or 96.8% of overall cases, which now stand at 9,094.
“The five imported cases who were infected abroad were Malaysians. Three of the imported cases were from Australia (the cases were found in Selangor), one case was from Japan (the case was detected in Kuala Lumpur), and one case was from Singapore (the case was found in Johor),” said Noor Hisham at a media briefing today.
As for the locally-transmitted cases, Noor Hisham said it involved five Malaysians and one foreigner.
“One case involving a foreigner, who was detected through screening of the workplace in Selangor, as [the patient] did not display symptoms and has been admitted to Sungai Buloh Hospital, Selangor," he said.
Noor Hisham said the five locally-transmitted cases involving Malaysians were detected in Johor, Perak and Melaka.
“In Johor, one case was found through pre-surgery screening in a private medical centre. The patient has been admitted to Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital.
"Three cases in Perak were detected from Kurau cluster, and one case in Melaka was found through screening for admission to a ward in a private medical centre. The patient was asymptomatic and has been admitted to Melaka Hospital,” said Noor Hisham.
