KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd said its sales for March grew 68% to 1,173 units from 696 units in February, on the back of strong demand for its new Triton pick-up trucks.

"The strong performance was partly due to overall company's momentum, driven largely by a surge of sales for the all-new Triton pick-up which went up 67% to 716 units compared to the corresponding month of February of 429 units.

"The all-new Triton recorded the second highest sales in the pick-up segment for the month of March," Mitsubishi Motors said in a statement.

It added that the Mitsubishi ASX Compact SUV, its first locally-assembled vehicle, also contributed to the March sales with a 22% increase to 207 units from 170 units in February.

The all-new seven-seater Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, meanwhile, received over 300 bookings ahead of its sales target of 100 units per month since its media preview a month ago.

The ASX 2WD and 4WD Compact SUV is locally assembled in Malaysia while the other Mitsubishi models are imported as CBU (Completely Built-Up) units from Thailand (compact hatchback Mirage, compact sedan Attrage, Pajero Sport SUV, Triton pick-ups) and Japan (Outlander and Lancer).

Mitsubishi Motors has 56 showrooms (out of which 47 are 3S Centres) and 52 service outlets throughout Malaysia.
