KUALA LUMPUR (April 13): Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd — the sixth largest car seller in the country — announced it saw its highest sales of 14,184 units in the financial year ended March 31, 2015 (FY15), up 12.8% from some 12,500 units in FY14, since setting up shop here in January 2005.

In a media statement this evening, Mitsubishi Malaysia said the record sales was driven by the Mitsubishi ASX model, which is currently assembled by its contract assembler Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd in Segambut, Selangor.

“Since its introduction in February 2014, total sales of the Mitsubishi ASX is 3,299 units, contributing to 23% of the group’s total sales for the financial year,” Mitsubishi Malaysia said.

The group added that the Triton model — with 6,016 units sold — contributed 42% to its total sales in FY15.

“The all-new Triton is set to be launched in May 2015, which is the fifth generation of the model series,” said Mitsubishi Malaysia.

According to the group, it has sold more than 88,000 units of vehicles in Malaysia since 2005. Five of the models sold here — compact hatchback Mirage, compact sedan Attrage, Pajero Sport SUV, Triton pick-ups — are imported from Thailand, while the Pajero and Lancer sedan models are imported from Japan.

Mitsubishi Malaysia noted it expanded its outlets to 58 in FY15, from 42 outlets in FY14.

Meanwhile, data from the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) revealed Mitsubishi Malaysia’s market share expanded to 2.1% in 2014, from 1.9% in 2013.
