KUALA LUMPUR (March 13): The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti) issued 18.69% fewer Approved Permit (AP) for vehicle import and export in 2016, as compared with year 2015.

In a Parliamentary written reply to Bukit Bintang lawmaker Fong Kui Lun, Miti said total AP issuance fell to 85,564 vehicles last year, from 105,227 vehicles in 2015, comprising completely built up (CBU) passenger cars and motorcycles.

For 2016, AP issuance for passenger cars totalled at 76,520 unit, fallen 10.55% from 85,542 unit in 2015; while those for motorcycles also declined by 54.06% to 9,044 unit, from 19,685 units over the same period.

Miti also disclosed that between year 2010 to 2016, the government had collected a total levy of RM2.05 billion through the AP policy.
