KUALA LUMPUR (March 25): The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) said companies producing essential goods that have obtained the ministry’s approval can continue operations, as the approval will remain valid throughout the extended Movement Control Order (MCO) period ending April 14.
In a statement today, MITI said the same applies to companies that have received the approval to keep their factory machineries in “warm idle” mode.
“Logistics arm of manufacturers that have received MITI’s approval are also allowed to operate. For manufacturers that have been given the green light to operate, but are using private or individual logistics or transport services providers, they are advised to seek the approval of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer affairs,” the ministry said.
Meanwhile, only workers that are listed in the respective companies’ applications that have been approved by MITI are permitted to continue working, and supporting documents attached with the list of staff involved and MITI’s approval letter must be provided by the employers to their staff, to facilitate the workers’ movement between the workplace and their homes.
The ministry said it will not be accepting any more applications from companies after the March 24 deadline.
“The ministry hopes Malaysia’s industry players will give their full cooperation throughout the MCO extension period and adhere to all the conditions set by the National Security Council in operating their business during the MCO. This is crucial to ensure Covid-19 spread can be contained effectively,” said MITI.
The ministry added that it will also be monitoring and ensuring sufficient supply of essential goods, particularly food and medical items.
