KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 11): AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary and petroleum arm of MISC Bhd, has appointed Captain Rajalingam Subramaniam as its new president and chief executive officer (CEO), with effect from Jan 1 next year.

Raja has been overseeing the running of AET since July, alongside his role as vice president (VP) of fleet management services at parent company, MISC, according to a statement from AET today.

MISC's president and CEO Yee Yang Chien said Raja had also headed AET’s shipmanagement division before moving to MISC in 2008, and has an in-depth understanding of the company.

“I have every confidence that he will continue to uphold the high standards that our customers and other stakeholders rightly demand from an ocean carrier,” Yee said in the same statement.

A former seagoing officer and master mariner, Raja sailed onboard MISC vessels, before serving ashore as a marine superintendent.

Following an appointment in 2005 as head of AET shipmanagement, he moved to parent company MISC in 2008 as vice-president of shipmanagement services. He also serves on the board of several MISC subsidiaries and joint venture companies, said AET.

Until recently, he was the vice-chairman of the International Tankers Owners’ Association (Intertanko) — a position he had held since 2012.

According to AET, due to his valued contribution, he has just been appointed chairman of Intertanko’s new Gas Tankers Committee. He holds an MBA from Universiti Utara Malaysia and is an Honorary Commander of the Royal Malaysian Navy.

“I am delighted and honoured to take on this role. It comes at a time when the markets are just beginning to recover and when our fleet is rejuvenating and growing its breadth of capabilities. AET has a bright future and I look forward to being a part of that,” said Raja.

At 3.16pm, MISC shares were trading 1 sen or 0.1% lower at RM9.14, after some 2.3 million shares were done, giving it a market capitalisation of RM40.8 billion.
