KUALA LUMPUR (April 7): MISC Bhd’s wholly-owned AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd has secured long-term charter contracts to own and operate two newly-built LNG Dual Fuel VLCCs (very large crude carriers) from Chartering and Shipping Services SA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Total SA.

The contracts were awarded to AET’s vessel-owning entity, AET Inc Ltd, and the charters are expected to commence in 2022, said MISC in a stock exchange filing today.

AET is the petroleum shipping unit of MISC and specialises in the global ocean transport of petroleum, while Total SA is a major energy player from France that produces and markets fuels, natural gas and low-carbon electricity.

“The contracts do not have any effect on the issued and paid-up share capital and substantial shareholding in MISC,” said MISC, adding that the contracts are also not expected to have any material impact to the group’s earnings per share, gearing and net assets per share for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2020.

Shares of MISC closed four sen or 0.53% higher at RM7.58 today, valuing the company at RM33.84 billion. Some 4.2 million shares were traded today. Despite having fallen some 9.2% year-to-date, the counter is still up 13.8% over the past year.
