KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Merge Energy Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Abdul Jalil Abdul Karim has tendered his resignation to pursue other interests, the group said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia this afternoon.

Abdul Jalil, 54, has been the CEO of the company, which is primarily involved in construction and project management for water treatment plants, since February 2011.

Abdul Jalil's resignation is effective today.

In a separate filing, the group announced the appointment of Datuk Lee Thian Hock and Czarina Alia Abdul Razak as its non-independent and non-executive directors.

Lee, 61, is a substantial shareholder of Merge Energy. He is also the group executive deputy chairman of property developer Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd.

Czarina, 46, is a former Majlis Amanah Rakyat board member (2010 to 2011) and has over 20 years of experience in human capital consulting with Kelly Services (M) Sdn Bhd. She is now the managing director of Matiin Education Services Sdn Bhd and CKW Consulting Sdn Bhd.

At 4.11pm, Merge Energy shares were up 3.5 sen (4.2%) to 87.5 sen, for a market capitalisation of RM58 million.
