KUALA LUMPUR (April 12): Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) registered a 13.2% growth in the first quarter of 2018 (1Q18) compared to 1Q17.

MBM sold a total of 3,335 vehicles in 1Q18, with 1,200 sold in January and 1,185 in February.

Achieving a 2.8% market share, up 0.5% from 2017, MBM attributed the success to its strategy of focusing on customers and their needs.

Speaking at a media briefing today, MBM president and chief executive officer Dr Claus Weidner said that through working hand-in-hand with its extensive dealer network, the company had managed to remain attentive to the customers' preferences and needs.

"We are delighted with our positive performance in the first quarter of 2018 as our long-term strategy of bringing customers close and keeping them at the centre of our activities continues to deliver results," said Weidner.

In 1Q18, MBM's locally produced limousines and the compact vehicles recorded an 8% and 37.3% increase respectively.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Services Malaysia recorded a servicing portfolio of over RM2.4 billion, up RM200,000 compared to last year.

Globally, Mercedes-Benz achieved its best ever quarter at 594,304 units sold with the best month of all time in March 2018 at 237,307 units sold.
