\SUBANG JAYA (April 20): Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Sdn Bhd expects higher sales of locally-assembled completely knocked down (CKD) cars in 2017 as their prices are "a lot more attractive and affordable", its sales and marketing vice president Mark Raine said.

Raine said the CKD segment contributed about two-thirds of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's sales. He said imported completely built-up (CBU) units made up the remaining portion.

"The demand for CKD will increase as the price is a lot more attractive and affordable," Raine said at the launch of the locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz E-Class here today.

"Since its introduction last year, the E-Class had received (an) overwhelming response, making it the best-selling CBU introduction model to date," he said.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is a joint venture between Daimler AG and Cycle & Carriage Bintang Bhd.

At 12:30pm, Cycle & Carriage Bintang shares rose 12 sen or 4% to RM2.88 for a market capitalisation of RM290.14 million.

Cycle & Carriage Bintang was the sixth-largest gainer across Bursa Malaysia.
