(June 5): Sabah PAS has given the DAP and PKR chapters of the state an ultimatum: work with the Islamist party or face them in the election.

The ultimatum was issued by Sabah PAS leader Zulfikar Abdul Mijan at the party assembly today where he said the party would field candidates in all seats in the next general election, including those traditionally contested by DAP and PKR in the state.

Zulfikar pledged to do this if DAP and PKR did not mend ties with Sabah PAS after relations were severed in April when the Islamist party tried to amend federal laws to implement the Kelantan Shariah Criminal Code.

“I urge the DAP and PKR central leadership to advise their Sabah chapters to reconcile with us. If not we will contest all Sabah seats regardless as to whether we can win,” said Zulfikar.

Sarawak DAP has also cut ties with Sarawak PAS over the Kelantan Shariah enactment.

Although part of the same coalition, the Sabah and Sarawak chapters of PKR and DAP are given more autonomy over their policies and operations by their central leaders.

Zulfikar said Sabah DAP was arrogant and accused it of moving to end ties first because Sabah PAS had not distanced itself from the Kelantan Shariah law.

“We did not say anything when Sabah DAP put out an oath stone in Sabah saying that there is no official religion in Sabah. But when it came to hudud, they wanted us say that hudud is not relevant in Sabah.

“But we did not do this because we are loyal and we defended our right to implement hudud in Kelantan,” Zulfikar said. – The Malaysian Insider
