KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 27): MCT Bhd is seeking clarification from the police in response to a statement made by the latter alleging One City Development Sdn Bhd's involvement in the altercation that occurred at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple on Nov 26.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, MCT's subsidiary One City said it had nothing to do with the altercation that morning at the temple.

In a news portal, a police source alleged that One City engaged one of the belligerent parties, to facilitate the acquisition of the land that the temple currently occupies, MCT said.

"Perhaps the side wanting to take over (the land) engaged a group of Malay men to facilitate the acquisition. It is possible that they are gangsters, and of course the Indian group attempted to check the intrusion," the source was quoted as saying.

The group highlighted that it has compensated the temple RM1.5 million, and had been willing to delay the move to ensure the relevant rites are held before the relocation.

According to the statement, by virtue of a 2014 consent judgement, the relevant authorities are bound to help the group relocate the temple peacefully.

The group emphasised its transparency and openness in this case and that it has set up an appointment to assist the police with their investigation.

The Sri Maha Mariamman temple is located in the district of Subang Jaya, and was slated for relocation on Nov 22 with the agreement of One City, the Selangor state government and the temple management.

However, a faction from the temple is against the move despite a consent judgement being provided in 2014.

An altercation occurred in the early hours of Nov 26 with two groups of individuals having a dispute at the temple itself.

On Nov 27, there were riots near the temple with members of the emergency services injured and the destruction of property.

MCT shares were not traded today. The counter last traded at 71 sen on Nov 15. The group's market capitalisation stands at RM1.03 billion.
