<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon has been appointed by the Ministry of Transport as the new chairman of Port Klang Authority (PKA).</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>In a statement today, PKA said Chong is replacing Ean Yong Hian Wah, and that Chong's appointment will be for two years, starting April 18, 2020 until April 17, 2022.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Ean Yong is a former Selangor executive council member and a three-term DAP assemblyman for Seri Kembangan. Chong's appointment appears to be a reversal to the trend seen during the Barisan Nasional administration, where the PKA chairmanship was often reserved for senior MCA politicians.</p></div><div class=inPageAd id=div-gpt-ad-inpage></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Before Ean Yong, the last PKA chairperson was former transport minister Tan Sri Kong Cho Ha. The MCA politician resigned from the post in July 2018.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>“His (Chong's) appointment has received the assent of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong, pursuant to Subsection 2(4)(b) [of the] Port Authority Act 1963,” PKA's statement read.</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Separately, the MoT has appointed Datuk Koh Chin Han, an MCA central committee member and chairman of MCA's Jasin division, as chairman of the Malacca Port Authority.&nbsp;</p></div>

<div class=newsTextDataWrapInner><p>Kok's appointment will also be in effect for two years starting April 18.</p></div>

CIMB Thai Bank PCL’s net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2024 (1QFY2024) dropped 24.6% year-on-year to 626.1 million baht from 830.1 million baht, as it reported lower operating income and higher expenses.  

The group recorded an 8.4% drop in operating income and an 11.8% increase in operating expenses. The effects of these were partially offset by a 36.9% decline in expected credit loss, according to CIMB Thai president and chief executive officer Paul Wong Chee Kin in a statement.
