KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 30): Telcos Maxis Bhd and Axiata Group Bhd announced they have received the reissuance of their spectrum assignments by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

In a bourse filing, Maxis said its subsidiary has accepted the reissuance of its 2100 MHz spectrum assignment, which comprises two of the 15MHz frequency division duplex (FDD) and one 5MHz time division duplex (TDD).

In a separate filing, Axiata said its wholly-owned Celcom Axiata Bhd has been reissued the existing spectrum assignment in 1950 MHZ to 1965MHz, and 2140 MHz to 2155MHz.

Both telcos said they have paid the upfront price of RM118.4 million and an annual fixed fee payment of RM50 million, respectively.

Maxis said it made the upfront payment today, together with the acceptance of the offer, while Axiata added that MCMC has acknowledged its payment today, which was funded mainly through internally generated funds.

The spectrums are each valid for 16 years, effective from April 2.

At 3.21pm, shares in Maxis dipped 2 sen or 0.33% to RM6.06 for a market capitalisation of RM47.41 billion, while Axiata's were up 1 sen at RM5.69, valuing it at RM51.39 billion.
