KUALA LUMPUR (July 20): Maxis Bhd's second quarter net profit rose 18% to RM574 million from a year earlier, as the mobile telecommunication network provider's postpaid and prepaid segments' revenue increased.

In a statement with Bursa Malaysia today, Maxis said group revenue climbed to RM2.17 billion in the second quarter ended June 30, 2017 (2QFY17), from RM2.1 billion. The company declared a tax-free dividend of five sen a share for the quarter in review.

"Postpaid revenue grew 2.0% to RM998 million, from RM978 million a year ago, with a solid base of nearly 1.9 million MaxisONE customers with monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) of RM120.

"Prepaid revenue grew 2.9% to RM984 million, from RM956 million in Q2 last year. Hotlink FAST, 4G prepaid market leader with high ARPU of RM44, has more than 1.8 million subscriptions which has almost tripled from last year," Maxis said.

For 1HFY17, Maxis said net profit rose to RM1.08 billion, from RM1.01 billion a year earlier. Revenue was higher at RM4.33 billion, versus RM4.24 billion.

Maxis chief executive officer Morten Lundal said the company was optimistic on its outlook, as it embraced full digitalisation.

"Q2 was a quarter of so many positives. We delivered strong financials with an all-time high customer satisfaction score to top them off.

"Our priority is to continue to deliver a great network experience and create an unmatched customer experience across all channels. This will only get better with our ambitions for a full digitalisation and we are on track towards this,” Lundal said.
