KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 30): Local tour and travel agents say they are thankful to the Cabinet for lowering the passenger service charge (PSC) for travellers flying out of klia2 and other airports except the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to destinations beyond Asean by RM23 to RM50 from RM73 beginning Oct 1.

In a statement today, Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said it had already deemed it as "unfair business pricing" when new PSC was announced in September 2016 by former transport minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for implementation from Jan 1, 2017.

"But on Nov 30, 2017, the Malaysian Aviation Commission announced that PSC will be fully equalised from Jan 1, 2018, with the same rates applicable for all airports, regardless of their size or service level.

"But such practice goes against the grain of fair pricing, which should be the cornerstone of every business or industry," he said.
