KUALA LUMPUR (April 18): Malaysia's total vehicle sales in March grew 10.1% to 53,717 units compared with 48,788 units in the same month last year, said the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Total production rose 3.2% to 49,356 units from 47,810, said MAA.

Year-to-date vehicle sales improved by 7.3% to 140,839 units from 131,251 units last year

MAA attributed the sales rise to the longer working month of March as well as the rush to deliver new vehicles to customers on time by companies with financial year end of March 31, 2017.

Likewise, vehicle production in January to March increased by 7.3% to 138,015 units from 129,591 units in the first three months of 2016.

On outlook, MAA expects sales volume in April to be maintained at March's level, on the back of continued aggressive promotional campaigns by car companies.
