(July 8): Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara)'s investment arm Mara Inc is willing to sell the four properties it bought in Melbourne if the right offer comes, Mara chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa said today.

The properties are subject to controversy due to allegations that Mara Inc overpaid by RM129 million combined for the four properties and that one of it involved kickbacks for some senior Mara officials.

PKR secretary general Rafizi Ramli earlier today challenged Mara to sell the properties to prove the profitability of the purchase, with Mara claiming they could make RM45 million profit on the four properties.

"We have no problems. It was an investment we made, and if it was a willing buyer willing seller basis, then we might sell," Annuar said at a press conference at Mara headquarters today.

Annuar also said that the Mara council has decided recently to sell one of its foreign assets, the Atelier House serviced apartments in London.

"That turned out to be a very good investment for us and is fetching a good price, so we decided to sell," he said.

"With the current exchange rate, we felt it was the right time to sell it," he added.

He also said that Mara had diversified itself all over the world and their management should not be judged based on allegations regarding property purchases in Australia. – The Malaysian Insider
