KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd has lowered the baggage allowance by 10kg for economy class passengers under the Value fare option effective today, to keep up with industry changes and passengers' demand.

In a statement today, Malindo Air said the baggage allowance for the Value fare option is now 15kg. However, that for the Flexi fare option has been increased by 5kg to 30kg. The baggage allowance was 25kg previously for both fare options.

"The baggage allowance for Business Class and its ATR flights remains at 40kg and 15kg respectively," it added.

Malindo Air chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the business rationale to the adjustments is to keep up with the industry changes and passengers' demand.

"This option allows passengers who are cost-sensitive to enjoy more competitive airfare with services that fit their needs. We want to keep our products relevant to the market and bring better flying experience to our passengers," he noted.

The full-service airline said the new baggage allowance does not apply to passengers who had made bookings before Feb 15 and flying on or after that date (Feb 15). They will still enjoy the original baggage allowance upon booking as reflected on their flight itineraries.

In July last year, Malaysia Airlines Bhd announced that it was reducing its free baggage allowance for domestic flights from 30kg to 20kg from August 2018. Last month, Dubai-based Emirates said several of its fare types will have their baggage allowance reduced by 5kg effective Feb 4.
