KUALA LUMPUR (July 12): Malaysia’s total population is projected to rise to 33.2 million in 2022, with a forecast annual growth rate of 1.2% for the 2020 to 2025 period, according to the United Nations (UN).

Malaysia’s population was recorded at 32.7 million in 2021, from 27.5 million in 2010.

In its World Population Dashboard released on Monday (July 11), the UN said Malaysia’s population breakdown will be 0-14 years making up 23%, those 15-64 years of age at 69%, while the elderly aged 65 and above will total 8% in 2022.

The life expectancy for males born in 2022 is 75 years, while for females it is 79 years.

Education

According to the UN data, for 2010 to 2020, the total net enrolment rate for primary education was at 99%, while lower secondary was at 88% and upper secondary 64%.
