KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 infections dropped to three today from 18 yesterday, pushing the total confirmed cases in the country to 8,637.

This is the fifth time the country has recorded single-digit daily increase since June 23.

Of the three new cases, one was an imported infection, while two were locally transmitted. All three cases are Malaysians, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the two local transmissions, one was detected in Selangor during a pre-procedure screening for the treatment of cancer, while one was found at a wet-market in Sabah during work-place screening.

Meanwhile, 16 more recoveries were reported today, which increased the recovery tally to 8,334 or 96.5% of overall cases.

This is the 15th straight day that no new fatalities were reported, so the death toll remained at 121 or 1.4%.

This means active Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 182 — the lowest since Malaysia initiated the movement control order or MCO on March 18, when the active tally stood at 728.
