KUALA LUMPUR (April 8): Malaysia today reported 1,285 new Covid-19 infections, up from yesterday's 1,139, which raised the country's cumulative cases to 355,753, with four more fatalities.

Of the latest fatalities, two were reported in Selangor, with one each in Sabah and Sarawak. Death toll from the coronavirus in the country now stands at 1,308 or 0.37% of overall cases, according to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

Recoveries, meanwhile, came in lower than new infections at 1,175. Consequently, active cases rose to 14,203 from 14,097 yesterday. Total recoveries now stand at 340,242, representing a recovery rate of 95.6%, Dr Noor Hisham said in a sattement.
 
Selangor leads as the highest contributor of new infections today with 374 cases, followed by Sarawak (211), and Penang (162). Of the new infections, all but 17 were locally-transmitted cases.

The Health Ministry has also identified four new infection clusters — three linked to the workplace and one from the community.

The workplace clusters are: Jalan Taming in Selangor (9 cases), Industri Parit Raja in Johor (38) and Perusahaan Perai Tiga (66) in Penang. The sole community cluster is Padang Manggis (10) in Pahang, whose index case was detected after the screening of an individual with symptoms in Kampung Padang Manggis, Pekan.

So far, the ministry has identified a total of 1,435 Covid-19 clusters, of which 1,087 have been declared ended, including 10 today. That leaves 348 active clusters.

The clusters that reported the highest numbers of Covid-19 cases today were Penjara Jalan Harapan (89 cases), Perusahaan Perai Tiga (60), and the newly-identified Industri Parit Raja (38).
