KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21): Malaysia reported 15,759 new Covid-19 infections today, up from yesterday's 14,345.

These raised total cases to date to 2,112,175, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Sarawak again had the most new cases at 3,732, followed by Johor (1,959), Selangor (1,934), Penang (1,417), Kelantan (1,338), Sabah (1,291) and Perak (1,184).

Elsewhere, Kedah posted 786 cases, followed by Pahang (707), Terengganu (592), Kuala Lumpur (359), Melaka (264), Negeri Sembilan (127),Putrajaya (34), Perlis (23) and Labuan (12).

A total of 15,471 or 98.2% of today's cases had no symptoms (Category 1 patients) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

The remaining 288 cases or 1.8% were in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

Recoveries higher than infections

Dr Noor Hisham said new recoveries came in higher than new infections at 16,650, bringing total recoveries to 1.9 million. This translates into a recovery rate of 89.2%.

A total of 1,117 Covid-19 patients were warded in the intensive care units with 635 of them on ventilators.

23 new clusters

The Health Ministry reported 23 more Covid-19 clusters today, including nine workplace clusters.

To date, 5,328 clusters have been detected nationwide, of which 4,013 have been declared ended.
