KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): Malaysia's inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), rose 3.6% from a year earlier in June, mainly on increases in transport, besides food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as recreational services.

On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased by 0.2%.

In a statement today, the Statistics Department said the transport group showed a significant increase of 10.5% on a yearly basis, after rising 13.1% in May 2017.

The other groups that recorded increases included food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.3%), recreation services and culture (3%), health (2.6%), restaurants and hotels (2.5%), and housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 2.2%.
