KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 5): A total of 494,214 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were given yesterday (Aug 4), up from 483,368 the day before.

Of the doses administered yesterday, 230,053 individuals received their first shot, while the remaining 264,161 received their second jab, according to the latest updates on Twitter today by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

Cumulatively, 22.65 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered as of yesterday.

A total of 14.94 million people or 45.7% of the nation’s population had received at least the first dose, including 7.7 million or 23.6% who were fully inoculated.

About 6.07 million individuals or 72% of the total population of the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of yesterday.

Among them, 2.68 million people or 31.8% of the Klang Valley's population were fully inoculated with two doses.

Meanwhile, Johor remained as the state with the highest number of first doses administered at 37,542 yesterday, followed by Sabah (33,404), Selangor (26,753), Perak (25,747) and Kelantan (20,048).

For second doses, Selangor continued to record the highest daily figure at 83,204 yesterday, followed by Kuala Lumpur (45,473), Sarawak (20,541), Kedah (18,342) and Negeri Sembilan (17,159).

Malaysia reported a record high of 19,819 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the country's total infections to 1.18 million.

Daily fatalities climbed to a new high of 257, raising the cumulative death toll to 9,855.
