KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): Malaysia administered 376,909 doses of Covid-19 vaccines yesterday (July 8) — the fourth day in a row that over 300,000 jabs were given. This is also the highest number of shots recorded per day.
Of this, 222,927 individuals received their first doses, while 153,982 persons got their second doses yesterday, according to the latest tweets by the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
Consequently, the seven-day moving average of daily doses also increased further to 295,225 from 278,954 previously.
In total, 10.41 million Covid-19 vaccine doses had been administered across the country so far, comprising 7.22 million first doses and 3.19 million second doses.
At least 22.07% of the population had gotten their first dose, while 9.75% of the population were fully inoculated as of yesterday.
Among the states and federal territories, Selangor reported the highest cumulative number of first doses administered at 1.315 million, followed by Sarawak at 1.312 million and Kuala Lumpur (1.303 million).

For second doses, Selangor also led with the highest cumulative number of shots administered at 446,583, Sarawak (443,987) and Johor (326,207).
Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases surged to 8,868 yesterday — the second highest number of daily infections ever recorded by the country — pushing the number of active cases to 77,275.
Selangor registered the highest number of new daily infections at 4,152, while Kuala Lumpur recorded 1,133 new cases. In third place was Negeri Sembilan with 897 cases.
In a statement yesterday, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah attributed the higher number of cases detected in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur to ramped-up testing in areas under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
To date, Malaysia’s total Covid-19 cases stood at 808,658.
On the other hand, Dr Noor Hisham said in a tweet that the country’s latest basic reproduction number nationwide stood at 1.09.
The R0/Rt data projects the average number of people whom each new Covid-19 patient will infect. Rt means the effective reproduction number. An Rt of less than 1.0 means the infection is not spreading.
According to the latest data, Putrajaya recorded the highest R0 at 1.28, followed by Perak (1.18), Kuala Lumpur (1.16) and Selangor (1.14).
