KUALA LUMPUR (April 29): Malaysia's March 2020 vehicles sales volume fell 58.96% to 22,478 units from 54,776 a year earlier, as businesses are largely affected by the implementation of the movement control order (MCO), according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

In a press release today, the MAA said passenger vehicle sales fell by nearly 60% to 20,260 units, from 50,101 units while commercial vehicle sales declined 52% to 2,218 units, from 4,675 units.

Year to date, cumulative sales between January and March 2020 was down 25.59% to 106,428 units from 143,036 units a year earlier, it added.

"Sales volume in March 2020 was 44% lower than February 2020, as businesses [were] stopped from March 18 onwards following the implementation of MCO phase 1.

"[There will be] no sales for April 2020, as MCO was [previously] extended until April 28, and showrooms will remain closed,” the MAA said.

The MCO is expected to stay in place until May 12.
