KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases dropped to one today, the lowest daily figure since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) on March 18.

In his daily briefing today, Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the lone case involved a Malaysian who had returned from Turkey, which meant that no local transmissions were recorded today.

According to him, the number of daily new cases recorded among Malaysians who were infected abroad was in line with the modelling of the National Institutes of Health on May 21, 2020.

The number of active cases dropped further to its lowest at 144 today, from 164 active cases yesterday, four months after the second wave of the pandemic hit Malaysia.

This left four patients in intensive care, with two needing ventilator support.

Meanwhile, 21 recoveries were recorded, outpacing the number of new infections for the third consecutive day.

“Total recoveries in the country increased to 8,375 or 96.9% of total cases,” said Noor Hisham.

Thus, cumulative cases rose to 8,640.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus remained at 121 for the 18th day as no new fatalities were recorded.
