KUALA LUMPUR (March 17): The Sarawak state disaster management committee confirmed today that the state has recorded its first Covid-19-related death after a 60-year-old pastor from Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kuching died at 11am today at the Sarawak General Hospital.

"The State Health Department is still in the process [of identifying] the source of his infection,” the committee said in a statement today.

The committee said 193 close contacts of the deceased have been traced and they are undergoing home-quarantine.

Sarawak had today recorded 11 new Covid-19 cases. The committee said six cases are from Kuching, three from Limbang, and one each from Betong and Lawas.

"They are now being treated at the three designated hospitals, namely Sarawak General Hospital, Sibu Hospital and Miri Hospital,” the committee said.

It said Sarawak had today also recorded another 35 individuals identified within the person-under-investigation category and 204 patients are still waiting for their Covid-19 test results.

"Currently, 45 Covid-19 cases in Sarawak had been traced to four clusters, namely Sri Petaling Cluster, Kuching (Church) Cluster, Sarikei Cluster and one more cluster in Kuching, the source of which is yet to be identified,” the committee said.
