KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 12): Malaysia reported 919 new Covid-19 cases today, which is lower than the 996 recoveries recorded during the day, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said.

One new death was recorded, bringing the number of deaths in the country from COVID-19 to 303. The deceased was a 66-year-old man who had been admitted to Tawau Hospital in Sabah.

Total Covid-19 infections reported so far stood at 43,791, with active cases dropping to 11,419 from 11,497 yesterday.

Of this, 92 patients are currently being treated in intensive care unit, with 35 needing respiratory assistance.  

The total number of Covid-19 patients discharged to date climbed to 32,069, with Sabah registering the highest number of recoveries at 543, followed by Selangor (225) and Penang (108), according to MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“From the 919 new cases today, three were imported involving two Malaysians and a foreigner. They had returned from Indonesia, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia,” Dr Noor Hisham told a media briefing.

Negeri Sembilan sees spike in cases to 240

Dr Noor Hisham said Sabah recorded 319 new cases today, while Negeri Sembilan posted a fresh record of 240 cases. The previous record high was the 225 cases yesterday.

“Some 236 cases in Negeri Sembilan were detected from the existing COVID-19 clusters, three from screening of close contacts of Covid-19 positive patients and one from other Covid-19 screening,” said Dr Noor Hisham.

He said the Cergas cluster, the biggest cluster in Negeri Sembilan and involving a factory in Seremban, saw 221 new cases, bringing the total number of cases from the cluster to 724.

Meanwhile, the Klang Valley recorded 224 new cases, representing 24.4% of total number of new cases. Selangor accounted for 174 of the infections, while Kuala Lumpur had 49 cases and Putrajaya one case.

The total number of cases in Sabah stood at 21,767, while Selangor has 6,875 cases in total, followed by Kuala Lumpur (3,286) and Negeri Sembilan (2,919).

One new cluster in Sabah, another three ends

Dr Noor Hisham said there was also a new cluster in Kota Kinabalu, namely the Teluk cluster with 30 positive cases.

He said three of the index cases there have tested positive for Covid-19, following screenings at the workplace on Nov 9 and Nov 10.

“Screening of close contacts detected 27 more positive cases. All of these patients have been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and quarantine centres and the Likas Sports Complex Covid-19 low-risk treatment centre.

“As of noon today, 128 individuals have been screened. Ninety-seven tested negative, while one is still waiting for the result," added Dr Noor Hisham.

Meanwhile, three clusters have officially ended as no new cases were reported for the last 28 days. These clusters are the  Pulau cluster in Sabah, the Bah Rose cluster in Kedah and Penang, as well as the Bah Ketil cluster in Kedah.
