KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 4): Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases fell slightly to 293 today — from 317 reported yesterday, bringing the cumulative cases so far in the country to 12,381.
This is the second highest daily figure recorded since the Covid-19 outbreak hit the country in early January. The highest daily figure was yesterday — 317 cases. It has been four straight days that Malaysia has reported a triple-digit number of new infections.
Following this, active cases rose further to 1,961 from 1,735 reported yesterday, leaving 28 patients in intensive care units with four of them needing respiratory aid, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).
This means active cases have stayed above the 1,000 mark for the week of Sept 28-Oct 4, following the total of 1,011 on Sept 28.
From the 293 new cases, 292 were locally-transmitted infections, while one was an imported case involving a foreigner who just returned from Bangladesh.

From the 292 local transmissions, 269 involve Malaysians and the remaining 23 were foreigners, according to MoH director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
According to his statement, 30 cases had travelled to Sabah, bringing the total number of cases who came from the state since Sept 20 to 206.
The breakdown of the 293 new cases include 11 states including Sabah which has 126 cases, Kedah with 113 cases, followed by Selangor (31), Johor (eight), Labuan (five), Kuala Lumpur (two), Negeri Sembilan (two), Perak (two), Penang (one), Kelantan (one), Sarawak (one).
Of all the states in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur has the highest total number of infections in the country with 2,694 cases, followed by Sabah which has 2,389 cases to date, Selangor (2,378) and Negeri Sembilan (1,054).
Meanwhile, 67 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with total cured cases now at 10,283.
No new Covid-19 related deaths were reported today, maintaining the death toll in the country at 137.
