KUALA LUMPUR (April 4): Malaysia recorded 1,349 new Covid-19 cases today, pushing the tally due to the pandemic to 350,959. Two more Malaysians died of the disease – one each in Sabah and Sarawak – raising the death toll to 1,288.

Active cases, however, increased to 14,509 from 14,432 the day before, as new recoveries came in lower than new infections at 1,270. In total, the number of recovered patients stood at 335,162, according to health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Of the new infections, 1,342 were local transmissions and the remaining seven were imported cases. Sarawak had the highest new infections at 419, followed by Selangor (343) and Penang (185), he said in a statement.  

Meanwhile, a total of 191 cases today were confirmed from the Covid-19 related prisons and detention clusters, namely the Tembok Sri Aman cluster (159); the Jalan Harapan prison cluster (26); the Tembok Mempaga cluster (two); the DTI Sepang 2 cluster (two); the DTI Juru cluster (one); and the Tembok Tapah cluster (one).

On infection clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said 10 more Covid-19 clusters were detected, bringing the number of clusters reported so far to 1,405.

The new clusters comprise five workplace clusters, four community clusters and one detention cluster.

The five workplace clusters are the Jalan Maju Cemerlang cluster in Johor saw 11 infections so far; the Jalan Murni Satu cluster in Johor (15); the Jalan Suasana cluster in Selangor (19); the Danan cluster in Kelantan (17); and the Jalan Alamanda cluster, which spans Putrajaya and Selangor (12).

The four community clusters are the Sungai Mupong cluster in Sarawak (17); the Sungai Rassau cluster in Sarawak (11); the Rich Park cluster in Sabah (17); and the Kampung Batu Lapan Lekir cluster in Perak (14).

The lone detention cluster identified as the Tembok Sri Aman cluster in Sarawak had 160 infections to date.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, 1,046 clusters have been declared ended while 359 remain active.
