KUALA LUMPUR (May 21): Malaysia received two shipments of Covid-19 vaccines today, totalling 1.06 million doses of AstraZeneca and CoronaVac Sinovac (Sinova Life Sciences Co Ltd) vaccines for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

In a statement today, the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) said the 1.06 million doses comprised 559,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 500,000 doses of CoronaVac Sinovac vaccine.

With the latest delivery, the total number of AstraZeneca vaccine received from Covid-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) stood at 828,000 doses.

CITF also said there will be another shipment of 559,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine by the end of the month.

Furthermore, the task force gave assurance that the AstraZeneca vaccine doses the country has received so far are safe, in good quality and effective to be used, in compliance with Lot Release requirements, adding that more doses will be sent to the AstraZeneca vaccination sites (PPVAZ) in the Klang Valley as well as three other states, namely Penang, Johor, and Sarawak.

"These are part of the government's plan to intensify the vaccination process under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Program (PICK).

"At this time, vaccination rate also recorded a consistent increase, at which 60,261 people had received their vaccinations on Monday, 76,551 (Tuesday) and 83,648 (Wednesday)," it added.
