KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): Malaysia reported 5,666 new cases on Sunday (Oct 24), a 3% decrease from the 5,828 reported a day earlier, marking two consecutive days of decline.

These raised cumulative infections in the country to 2,431,716, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The latest infections comprised 20 imported cases and 5,646 domestic cases, he said in a statement.

Of these, only 107 cases or 1.9% of were under Categories 3, 4 and 5 (severe or critical), while the remaining 5,559 were under Categories 1 and 2 (asymptomatic or with mild symptoms).

A total of 601 cases were being treated in intensive care units, with 299 patients requiring respiratory assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said there were 6,978 new recoveries, raising the total number of patients discharged so far to 2,327,369.

The director-general said three new Covid-19 clusters were detected, bringing the total number of clusters to date to 5,722.

The new clusters were Ladang Jalan Kluang (workplace cluster), Jalan Sutera Kuning (high risk group) and Jalan Lama Tebuk Marso (community cluster).

A total of 42 cases were detected from these clusters.

To date, a total of 5,183 clusters have been declared ended, leaving 539 active clusters nationwide.

Meanwhile, according to covidnow.moh.gov.my, 42 Covid-19-related deaths were reported for Oct 23, bringing the total number of deaths to 28,354.
