Active cases dip for third time since June 25

The number of active cases — which only stood at 60,117 two months ago on June 25 but has been on an upward climb since — dipped to 267,997, down from 268,548 yesterday, amid higher daily recoveries of 20,845, which outpaced new infections. This is the third daily decline since June 25.

Meanwhile, the ministry reported that 15,651 cases or 76.1% of the new infections today were patients who either were not vaccinated or had had only one dose of vaccine.

And 97.8% of the new cases reported today had either no symptoms (Category 1) or little symptoms (Category 2), the balance 2.2% were spread across Categories 3 (patients with pneumonia), 4 (with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and 5 (critical cases needing assisted ventilation).

The number of patients being treated in intensive care units rose to 1,009 from yesterday's 986. Of these, 477 require respiratory assistance.

26 new clusters detected, including 20 workplace clusters

Dr Noor Hisham said 26 new clusters were identified today, with 952 infections reported among them.

They comprised 20 workplace clusters — which contributed 770 cases or 80.9% of total infections under the new clusters — five community clusters (165 cases), and one education cluster (17 cases).

The country has reported 4,673 clusters so far, including 3,203 that have been declared ended. The number of active clusters stood at 1,470.
