KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 9): Malaysia’s natural rubber (NR) production in June 2019 declined 16.9 per cent month-on-month to 36,957 tonnes against 44,479 tonnes in May 2019.

The Department of Statistics in its ‘Monthly Rubber Statistics Malaysia, June 2019’ said the NR output also decreased 10.7 per cent compared with 41,364 tonnes recorded in June 2018.

It said exports of Malaysia's NR amounted to 54,547 tonnes, down 4.1 per cent from 56,850 tonnes in May 2019.

China was the main destination for exported NR with 61.3 per cent of the total exports in June 2019, followed by Germany (9.8 per cent), the United States (3.6 per cent), Iran (3.4 per cent) and Korea (1.9 per cent).

“Stocks of natural rubber recorded in June 2019 was 165,596 tonnes, a drop of 6.4 per cent from 176,972 tonnes in May 2019,” it said in its website today.

It also said the average price of Latex Concentrate was 496.61 sen per kg in June 2019, up 2.5 per cent while the average price of Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 (SMR 20) fell 0.3 per cent to 623.92 sen per kg compared with the average price recorded in May 2019.

Total domestic consumption of NR was 38,791 tonnes, a decrease of 10.9 per cent versus 43,529 tonnes in May 2019.

“NR is widely used in the rubber gloves manufacturing industry with a consumption of 28,817 tonnes or 74.3 per cent of the total domestic consumption,” said the statistics department.
