KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 7): Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd's (MHB) fourth quarter net loss widened to RM119.67 million from a year earlier on lower revenue and higher asset impairment provision.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, MHB said revenue fell mainly on lower income from its oil and gas structure construction unit. MHB said group net loss in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2016 (4QFY16) widened from a net loss of RM27.13 million. Revenue dropped to RM303.64 million from RM721.14 million.

MHB's oil and gas structure construction operations are undertaken via its heavy engineering unit. "Heavy engineering's revenue fell by 72% at the back of fewer and lower backlog and order intake, which in turn has resulted in operating loss of RM34.4 million compared to an operating profit of RM25.6 million," MHB said.

MHB said asset impairment provision was higher at RM140.53 million versus RM99.8 million.

Full-year (FY16) net loss stood at RM134.3 million compared with a net profit of RM43.89 million a year earlier, according to MHB. Revenue fell to RM1.19 billion from RM2.46 billion, it said.

At 2.33pm, MHB fell 4 sen or 3.81% to RM1.01, for a market capitalisation of RM1.66 billion.
