THE Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint is a holistic approach — encompassing digital connectivity (fibre and 5G), digital infrastructure (cloud and cybersecurity) as well as digital skill sets and talents — to making life and business easier for Malaysians as a connected nation, says Telekom Malaysia Bhd Group CEO Imri Mokthar.

TM, he adds, is ready and excited to play a significant part in this accelerated journey.

TM is the only home-based cloud operator to be awarded Cloud Service Provider status. “Today, TM has established itself as a leading end-to-end cloud and data centre service provider that provides data residency, locality and sovereignty in Malaysia, serving both our public sector and enterprise customers.”

TM has seven data centres, four of which are rated Tier III, providing world-class cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced cybersecurity, says Imri.

He adds that TM supports MyDIGITAL and other government digital and stimulus plans in the effort to accelerate socioeconomic recovery at this critical time.

“We believe such public and private collaboration will propel our country, today and tomorrow, towards a full-fledged Digital Malaysia by 2030 — a more digital society, digital business and digital government.”

Commenting on the details of the blueprint, Imri says TM is committed to accelerating connectivity reach for the nation via Jendela (Jalinan Digital Negara).

“TM supports Jendela and is an active and major contributor in the nationwide fiberisation effort to greatly improve broadband coverage and quality.

“The expansion of the fibre network is not limited to home and business premises, but enables the fiberisation of mobile towers to improve the current 4G service quality and, next, to expedite 5G rollout. The current 570,000km of fibre length across Malaysia is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years, in tandem with the Jendela implementation.”

Imri says TM’s ever-growing global network of more than 20 submarine cable systems spanning 190,000km is ready to support the global connectivity demand of MyDIGITAL.

“TM enables end-users to access and enjoy a seamless connectivity experience in support of a more digital lifestyle and workstyle through our strong relationships with global telco and content partners, including hyperscalers.”

He also expresses support for the creation of a 5G special purpose vehicle (SPV).

“TM is also primed to support the 5G SPV with its 570,000km fibre network nationwide to enable fast and cost-effective rollout of the 5G infrastructure.”
