KUALA LUMPUR (July 6): Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) expects its employees to be fully vaccinated by the middle of August following its participation in the Industry Vaccination Centre (PPVIN) Programme, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) beginning today.

In a statement, MAG said a total of 5,150 vaccines are allocated for MAG’s Kuala Lumpur-based employees, including Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Amal, MASkargo and AeroDarat.

It noted that employees comprising technical and cabin crew, as well as customer-facing staff, will be receiving their first dose of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccination between July 6 and July 23, and second dose by mid-August 2021. A similar programme is being planned for its employees based at Penang International Airport, MAG added.

MAG chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said that it is pleased to participate in the PPVIN programme at KLIA.

“MAG has introduced the enforcement of the MAG Vaccination Policy as part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe environment at the workplace, and this includes making Covid-19 vaccination compulsory for all MAG employees.

"We are thankful to the government for expediting the provision of vaccines for our employees including arranging a similar programme for our employees nationwide in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan in collaboration with the District PPV Programmes. We have now seen almost 90% of the 1,200 MAG employees in these states vaccinated. At the same time, another 1,200 of our colleagues in Peninsular Malaysia have also obtained their first dose through District PPVs.

"Vaccination plays a vital role in the restart of domestic and international air travel and tourism. We remain steadfast in our commitment to adopting the highest safety and hygiene standards in air travel. We believe to operate a flight with a fully vaccinated crew is as important as we prepare to welcome our passengers to fly confidently with us,” he said.

MAG added that to further support the nation’s biggest Covid-19 immunisation drive, it continues to mobilise its employees from across the group to volunteer at several mega vaccination centres, namely Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil and KL Convention Centre.

The PPVIN programme at KLIA is to facilitate and expedite vaccination for aviation personnel and other related industries.
