KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): The annual Malaysia Autoshow has been postponed to April 2021 from July 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, said its organiser Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).

MARii is an agency under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

In a statement, MARii said confirmation of a new date remains subject to the developments of Covid-19 throughout this year.

The Malaysia Autoshow 2020 was to take place at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Although moved to next year, it will remain under the purview of MARii.

MARii CEO Datuk Madani Sahari said the agency was looking at potential technologies to host a digital version of an automotive sales and education show.

“It is a good time to rethink and innovate the way we gather the automotive community in a safe and secure way,” he said.

Madani said he remained optimistic about planning a bigger Autoshow for 2021 that will showcase the "latest mobility technology and create a new experience in automotive and mobility exhibitions for the tech-savvy consumer”.
