KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 28): Malaysia Airlines (MAB) is investigating the flight plan submission for MH132 from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur on Christmas day after two different flight routes were issued to the flight and Auckland's Air Traffic Control (ATC).

In a statement yesterday, the airline said its Operations Dispatch Centre had given the latest flight plan to MH132 and whilst ATC received an earlier one.

"Both routes were following an approved flight path and the aircraft had enough fuel for both routes. The safety of both passengers and crew were never compromised at any time," said MAB in the statement.

It added that flight plans were generated based on weather, air traffic notices and route efficiency, among other conditions, and adheres strictly to safety procedures and processes.

The New Zealand Herald had reported that the pilot on flight MH132 raised concerns eight minutes after take-off when his Airbus A330 was instructed to fly further south than usual.

The plane, which left at 2.23am Christmas Day (7.23am Malaysian time) was heading towards Melbourne rather than a more direct flight path to Kuala Lumpur.

The report stated that Airways, which managed air traffic control for New Zealand and South Pacific, would “work closely” with MAB to find out how the confusion came about.
