KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Property and construction outfit Majuperak Holdings Bhd, the 50.11%-owned associate of Perak State Development Corp (PSDC), will be leading the purchase of vaccines for the Perak Vaccine Programme (PVP) for PSDC, which has been granted the authority to lead the purchase of vaccines for the PVP by the Perak state government.

In a statement today, Majuperak said the group is taking the lead to ensure a consistent and authorised supply of the vaccines to address the need for a greater supply for the state, following the federal government's recent approval for state governments and the private sector to purchase vaccines.

"Towards this end, the state government of Perak announced that the Perak State Development Corp, through Majuperak, has been granted the authority to lead the purchase of vaccines for the PVP.

"Majuperak will facilitate the state government's efforts to accelerate vaccination for the rakyat with a view towards achieving herd immunity by increasing the distribution of vaccines to targeted groups in [Perak]," said Majuperak group chief executive officer (CEO) Nizran Noordin.

"Through Majuperak's PVP known as 'SilverVax', the vaccination supply will be made available to private companies to procure and provide vaccination for their workforce and family members. These targeted private companies are small, medium and large corporations in the manufacturing, plantation, services and property industries," he said.

The vaccines will be administered starting from August 2021 at Hospital Ar-Ridzuan in Ipoh, which has been appointed and authorised as distributor on behalf of Majuperak, and at other vaccination centres that have been identified with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force, he said.

According to Majuperak, it recently signed a supply and distribution agreement with Pharmaniaga Bhd's subsidiary, Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd, for the supply of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine.

Majuperak executive chairman and PKNPk CEO Datuk Redza Rafiq said that as the group looks forward to phase three of the National Recovery Plan, it is integral that the Perak workforce meets the 40% vaccination requirement.

"We are pleased that the collaboration with Pharmaniaga to deliver the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine will speed up the vaccination process with a view towards the reopening of economic activities in line with the nation's recovery plan protocols.

"In addition to this, Majuperak and EB Holdings Sdn Bhd are finalising the details to acquire Sinopharm's vaccine from Duopharma Biotech Bhd as well to ensure sustainable supply to achieve herd immunity for the state of Perak," he said.

The procurement of Sinopharm's vaccine will be subject to the Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply's approval and in line with augmenting the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, he added.

Business owners in Perak interested in participating in the programme can enquire about application submission at Majuperak's corporate office or register at www.vaksinperak.com.
