KUALA LUMPUR (May 4): UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) has announced today that authorised Toyota and Lexus sales and service outlets in its network that are located in areas observing the conditional movement control order will be open for business from today.

In a statement, UMWT said the opening of the outlets will be based on approval and regulations by the respective local governments and customers should call in advance to check on the operating days and hours of the sales or service outlets as well as to secure an appointment.

"The opening of the sales and service outlets follow the approval from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and relevant local authorities.

"All outlets have received guidelines for their daily operations, which must be in accordance with the standard operation procedures (SOP) issued by MITI. The SOP requires such measures as social distancing, sanitisation of premises and contactless payments where possible," it said.

UMWT president Ravindran K said: "We will follow the SOP strictly at all our sales and service outlets for our customers' peace of mind as well as to also protect our staff. It is hoped that customers will understand the requirements which are necessary in the public interest and safety."

The company added that for vehicles purchased from its authorised dealers with existing warranties that are expiring during the movement control order period, there will be a 30-day extension calculated from the last day of the order, which is currently set on May 12.
