KUALA LUMPUR (March 14): Ire-Tex Corp Bhd said its major shareholders are not aware of any reason which may have led to the sudden surge in its share price and trading volume.

“The company had contacted all major shareholders of the company, and none of them have confirmed that they are aware of any matter that resulted in the recent unusual market activity (UMA) on the trading of the company’s shares,” it said in its filing with Bursa Malaysia today.

Ire-Tex was slapped with the UMA query by the local bourse yesterday, after its share price rose as much as 45% to hit an intraday high of 29 sen, before closing at 26.5 sen.

It was the seventh most actively-traded stock for the day, with a volume of 41.26 million shares.

Today, Ire-Tex closed at 23.5 sen, giving it a market capitalisation of RM32.56 million.

The counter has nearly doubled in value from 12 sen on Feb 28, amid heavy trading in the past two weeks.
