KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 30): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has not ascertained whether to construct a new terminal or a satellite building for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The airport operator's managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali told reporters that KLIA is capable of handling 35 million passengers per annum (mppa), but the group can expand the capacity up to as much as 150 mppa.

He added that the plan was not finalised yet, as MAHB will still need to observe the passenger flow in KLIA before making any decision.

Badlisham was addressing the press here today after the launching of a new fitness system dubbed MyFIT System for the group's fire and rescue department, Airport Fire & Rescue Service (AFRS).

Last Monday, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abd Aziz Kaprawi reportedly said that a new terminal is expected to be built at KLIA to expand its total capacity to 100 mppa.

Abd Aziz also said that MAHB is expected to submit a proposal for the airport's third terminal in the next two to three years after detailed studies.
