SEPANG (Jan 24): Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said today it is seeking to acquire or provide services to potential overseas airports following slower growth of passenger volume in its Istanbul airport due to recent terror attacks in the region.

"There are many opportunities out there, [we're] just waiting for the right time. [We are] constantly evaluating different airports around the world," said MAHB managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali in a media appreciation event at Mitsui Outlet Part KLIA today.

Last year, MAHB saw 118.5 million passengers pass through its airports, including its only international airport, Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SGIA), up 5.7% from 2015. The company owns and operates 39 airports in Malaysia.

Badlisham added that Asean passengers make up 50% of international passengers volume in its airports and hopes to see greater growth from the Asean segment.

The airport operator is also looking to increase its non-aeronautical revenue stream such as income from retail concessions, advertising and parking, while aeronautical income is mainly from airline rents, usage fees and charges.

MAHB closed unchanged at RM6.20, giving it a market capitalisation of RM10.29 billion.
