KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today attended Friday prayers and a special sermon in conjunction with Warriors Day at the Khalid Al Walid Mosque here.

Dr Mahathir, attired in a grey Baju Melayu, arrived at the mosque at 1.23 pm for the prayers also attended by more than 2,000 worshippers.

He was welcomed by Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli  Zainal Abidin.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof; Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad; Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad; Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun.

The special sermon, entitled 'Pahlawan: Jasamu Sentiasa Di Hatiku' (Warriors: Your Deeds Always in My Heart), was delivered by Armed Forces Religious Corps (KAGAT) director-general Datuk Kamarudin Mamat.

In the sermon, Kamarudin touched on the sacrifices of the security forces and their task of defending the sovereignty of the nation from harassment and colonisation.

He said the people should appreciate and learn from the spirit of heroism of the country’s warriors.

“The country very much needs people with the spirit of the warriors who are prepared to carry out various sacrifices for the sake of developing the ummah (people) and our beloved country,” he said.

The Friday prayers were led by Defence Ministry religious officer Maj Mohd Nizam Tirmizi.

Warriors Day is observed on July 31 annually to commemorate the deeds of the security forces who have sacrificed a great deal for the country.
