(Sept 14): A team from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to go abroad this week to record statements from billionaire Jho Low and two others in connection with investigations into SRC international Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of the troubled 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

The two others expected to be questioned are SRC International's managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Nik Othman Kamil and director Suboh Mohd Yassin.

It is understood that MACC had sought help from various agencies abroad to locate the trio and finally were able to "reach" them to seek their assistance in the investigation.

Sources familiar with the case said the interviews will be conducted overseas as the three men have cited security concerns if they were to return to Malaysia.

Sources told The Malaysian Insider that MACC only wanted to record their statements and that they were not the main targets.

"It is merely for investigation purposes. We cannot arrest them as they are abroad," said the source.

This comes after MACC had issued notices to the three on August 22 to appear before them to assist the ongoing probe into the RM42 million that was channelled into Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s personal bank accounts.

Following the notice, Jho Low, whose real name is Low Taek Jho, had contacted MACC and stated his willingness to cooperate with the authorities.

Former police special branch deputy director Datuk Abdul Hamid Bador last month had alleged there were efforts to hide the main witnesses with regard to the SRC International probe.

Without divulging names, Hamid said one of the main witnesses previously hid in Indonesia and Thailand, and is now in New Zealand.

"There are efforts to hide the main witnesses. They are those wanted by MACC," he had said.

In July, the Immigration Department had issued a travel ban on Nik Faisal while Suboh was also reported missing.

Nik Faisal's last known address is Alam Impian, Shah Alam while Suboh’s is Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur and Jho Low is from Tanjung Bungah Park, Penang.

Apart from the RM42 million, MACC is also investigating the RM4 billion Retirement Fund Inc loan to SRC International. – The Malaysian Insider
